About Day Zero Water

Day Zero Water is a student-led, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that leads water awareness campaigns in New York and internationally. Our water conservation organization also implements water filtration projects in schools locally in New York and in high water stress areas around the world. Our mission is to make sure everyone around the world has access to clean, safe drinking water by:

  •  Raising awareness of clean water and water security
  •  Fundraising to implement reverse osmosis water filter systems in schools and high water stress areas
  •  Implementing water quality testing
  •  Providing innovative solutions to Water-Energy nexus issues
  •  Reducing, reusing, and recycling water including using smart devices and nature-based solutions
  •  Promoting sustainable use of natural resources

How Our Water Conservation Organization Started

Day Zero Water was founded by Om Sanan. Originally from India, Om noticed the disparity in water quality between India and the United States, even with clean water filtration systems. His experience of falling sick due to the water in India intrigued him to research and analyze water facilities. This curiosity led him to network with professionals, visit water treatment plants, and delve into scientific journals; all of this resulted in his decision to study ways to provide clean water to underprivileged communities.

Om continues to focus on advocacy, raising water conservation awareness, and generating funds for those in need.
